Stephen O’Shea
Stephen O'Shea was born in Essex, went to school in South Yorkshire, and graduated from Cambridge with an MA and a veterinary degree in 1982. He then spent two years in a mixed practice in Surrey, followed by a further two years in companion animal practice in Portsmouth, before moving to Plymouth to join the Veterinary Hospital team in 1987.
Stephen currently divides his time mostly between the St Budeaux branch and the Hospital. He enjoys most aspects of internal medicine, and has a particular interest in cardiology and respiratory disease. He gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Cardiology in 1997 and currently deals with many of our cardiac patients, as well as seeing cases referred by other practices in the region.
Stephen was involved for some years with the South-West division of BSAVA, which is the body primarily responsible for running continuing education programmes for veterinary surgeons. He was the regional chairman in 2000 involving planning and organising meetings for veterinary surgeons in the region.
Away from veterinary work, Stephen is married to Tina, with two children, and all are keen walkers. The family have a variable flock of chickens, a fairly normal Labrador and (don't laugh) a Basset hound. His other interests, in no particular order, include a recently renewed enthusiasm for golf, blowing his own trumpet in a community band in Tavistock - where Tina blows her own saxophone - and following the fortunes and misfortunes of Fulham Football Club. This of course explains the greying hair.
