White Smile Month: Would you kiss your cat or smooch your pooch?!
Did you know that toothache was the most common reason for suicide in Victorian times?
When did you last look in your pet’s mouth or get close enough to smell his breath? Does he have a bright white smile or would the fetid whiff put you off your breakfast?
Hundreds of pets silently suffer from dental disease because we humans don’t notice it and they can’t tell us their mouth is painful or infected. Broken, loose or decaying teeth, inflamed gums and infections are not only painful but also affect your pet’s wellbeing and happiness. Dental disease can cause pets to be depressed or irritable, and it certainly affects their general health too, as infectious organisms from the mouth spread to other parts of the body such as the heart valves and kidneys.
Very often a pet with dental disease becomes lethargic and withdrawn, and don’t assume everything is fine just because he is still eating fine and doesn’t bite you when you go to check his mouth.
Imagine how you would feel if you had toothache or even simple inflammation of the gums but could tell no-one what was bugging you, and were not able to get help.
