Look what’s new!

White Smile Month: Would you kiss your cat or smooch your pooch?!

Did you know that toothache was the most common reason for suicide in Victorian times?

When did you last look in your pet’s mouth or get close enough to smell his breath? Does he have a bright white smile or would the fetid whiff put you off your breakfast?

Hundreds of pets silently suffer from dental disease because we humans don’t notice it and they can’t tell us their mouth is painful or infected. Broken, loose or decaying teeth, inflamed gums and infections are not only painful but also affect your pet’s wellbeing and happiness. Dental disease can cause pets to be depressed or irritable, and it certainly affects their general health too, as infectious organisms from the mouth spread to other parts of the body such as the heart valves and kidneys.

Very often a pet with dental disease becomes lethargic and withdrawn, and don’t assume everything is fine just because he is still eating fine and doesn’t bite you when you go to check his mouth.

Imagine how you would feel if you had toothache or even simple inflammation of the gums but could tell no-one what was bugging you, and were not able to get help.

It is vital to think about the mouth and gums when considering your pet’s general health. We aim to treat dental disease in the early stages before it becomes a real welfare problem, just as humans should have regular dental checks and hygienist treatment, rather than waiting until there is a major problem.

Let us help you with this. March is White Smile Month at the Veterinary Hospital Group, and we are happy to see your pet for a free dental check, as well as offering substantial discounts if your pet needs dental treatment.

We have bags of tasty dental treats to give to dogs, the chance for your cat to win a cosy, heated bed, and goody jars or electric toothbrushes (for humans!) free with purchases of dental diet. We are also giving special offers on necessary dental hygiene and treatment during White Smile Month.

Phone our Veterinary Hospital (01752 702646 or our nearest Veterinary centre for further information, advice or an appointment, and give your pet a big WHITE SMILE!
