Claire Palmer
Claire was born in Cornwall and spent all of her school days in the seaside town of Penzance. She then decided to see what the world was like outside Cornwall and was consequently accepted to attend The Welsh Institute of Rural Studies (University of Wales), Aberystwyth, studying for a Higher National Diploma in Equine Studies. Claire was one of the few who graduated with merit in July 2000 and was offered a place to top up her diploma to a degree. However, she decided that she could not afford to be a student any longer!
Claire initially intended to become an Equine Veterinary Nurse. However, in order to fulfill this goal Claire needed to undertake the two years of study and work with small animals prior to specialising. Claire joined The Veterinary Hospital as a Student VN in August 2000 and qualified as a VN in July 2004. She enjoys all aspects of her job and is currently the nurse in charge of the ward at the hospital. She also helps to run the hospital laboratory and has undertaken numerous CPD courses which are laboratory based, one of which was with Idexx Laboratories in Yorkshire, to further her knowledge. Claire would love to eventually work in a veterinary laboratory. Claire is currently sitting the Certificate in Veterinary Pharmacology, a new qualification for VNs.
Away from work, Claire enjoys socialising with her friends and walking her Border Collie, Finley.
